On 25 February 2004, this unique event took place in Brussels. It was an opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss the problems and potential solutions to open up the Information Society for all deaf, hard of hearing and speech-impaired people and to start removing some of the barriers to opportunity and fulfilment. Entrance to the conference was free of charge.
Major speakers and attendees from all over Europe, including Erkki Liikanen, European Commissioner for Enterprise and the Information Society gave presentations and speeches and in workshops and plenary sessions, all participants could contribute to the debate.
Why? There is a need to create a Europe-wide strategy to cover networks, services and terminals in conjunction with the new EU regulatory framework for electronic communications that is being implemented in member states at the moment.
How? The conference brought together decision makers at the highest level from all stakeholder groups and provided a forum for discussion to develop a common view on the problems and a unified strategy to address them.
