TalkByText is the name of RNID's family of state of the art solutions for real-time text communication. Currently, TalkByText comes in several different flavours:
Real-time text is the method used by textphones whereby text arrives at the receiving terminal as it is typed at the sending terminal. It is the closest text-based equivalent to a voice conversation.
Telephony, the ability to communicate in voice, in real-time, remotely with other people, has transformed the way people live, in work as well as in social life. The mobile revolution has strengthened that notion even more. It has now become possible to have a conversation with anyone, at any time, in any place.
At the same time, deaf and hard of hearing people who cannot use voice telephony because of their hearing loss, have faced increasing social and economic exclusion as a result of the inability to use voice telephony. There are millions of deaf and hard of hearing people in Europe and this number is increasing as the population ages.
TalkByText puts for once deaf people at the forefront of technology by exploiting state of the art Internet Protocol technology for real-time media transport over the Internet. For the first time, text telephony for deaf people is being delivered on top of mainstream, open standards based on technology of tomorrow.
